Flourishing (or Not!) Across Europe - Huppert and So (2013)
Are Europeans flourishing? Felicia Huppert and Timothy So analyzed data from 43,000 adult Europeans comprising 22 nations in the European Social Survey (Round 3 - 2006/7) to determine the prevalence of flourishing, defined as people meeting a criterion similar to the flourishment PERMA-V goal here at zZense.com. Regionally, they found all Nordic countries in the top third of the distribution, and all Eastern European countries in the bottom half. By country, Denmark has by far the highest rate of flourishing (40.6%), followed by Switzerland (30.2%) and Austria (27.6%). The UK and Germany were midway (about 20%) and France lower (about 14%). At the bottom were Slovakia (9.9%), Russian Federation (9.4%), and Portugal (9.3%).
